10 Ways To Find Business Insurance Leads

Anyone just starting out in the insurance industry has undoubtedly become aware of the challenge of finding good insurance leads.  Business insurance leads are no different than any other type of insurance.  While the medium for searching for these leads will be different for businesses as it is for individuals, the concept is the same.  The key is to start thinking outside of your typical thought process.

At the life and health guru, we have compiled a list of 10 simple ways to get business insurance leads.  This list is definitely not comprehensive, and only represents a small portion of your available options.  Feel free to comment on additional ways in which you have been successful finding business insurance leads, we would love to hear your input.

The Business Insurance Leads Suggestion List:

1.  Existing Clients - The single best approach that we have found to find business insurance leads is through your existing clientele.  You've without a doubt heard this concept before.  But who better is there to provide your business with referrals than your already satisfied customers.

The fact of the matter is that businesses owners know business owners.  It's almost like you've joined a selective club.  Simply being a business owner, you get to know other business owners in your area.  Which brings us to our next suggestion...

2.  Business Clubs – Joining your local business clubs and associations is a great way to get your name out there.  Almost every town has their own chamber of commerce and local business groups.  Take the time (and money) to join and attend these associations.  You'll find that everyone there is just like you, looking to network with other people in the community.

Once you establish a relationship with others at the meeting, you can begin to cultivate your business insurance leads.

3.  Toastmasters – Similar to business associations in your community, take the time to join your local toastmasters.  This will help you in two ways.   As an insurance agent, you will benefit from the increased skills learned from the group.  The second reason is that you will once again find business owners and other motivated individuals at these meetings.

As you are presenting your speech for the toastmasters, perhaps you could integrate some subtle hints regarding your expertise in business insurance.  Plant the seeds that get you the leads.

4.  Public Workshops – A great way to get exposure in the community is to hold a public workshop.  Advertise the workshop in the newspaper or other business news flyers around your city.  Be sure to prepare a presentation that is both informative and not to sales oriented.  Provide them the image that you are knowledgeable and the best choice to tackle their business insurance needs.  Once you meet their needs you will get their leads (sorry, last rhyme).]

5.  Local Pages – A basic place to find business insurance leads is in your local phonebook or yellow pages.  Find businesses around town that you can see needing business insurance.  You will notice page after page of referral candidates.  While this will require a degree of cold calling, it is still another option to spread out your net.

6.  Online – More and more people are looking to solve their business needs online.  There are a number of different approaches you can take to find business insurance leads online.  The first is to develop a web presence yourself.  Have a professional and optimized website created for your company.  Blogging is also a great option to have the exposure you need to get people to your site.  Be sure that you have some type of conversion form to handle your interested prospects.

The second approach to online business insurance leads is by finding those that are already successful at it.  There are a number of websites that specialize in finding leads and then selling the list of name with the most geographical relevance to you.  Be sure that you use a legitimate source for these types of leads.  Not all lists are created equal.

7.  Teach At the Community Center – Another great approach is to teach a course at your local community center or college.  These types of public classes are similar to your public workshops.  You can offer the class some great information on business insurance and immediately establish in their minds your authority on the subject.  Many of these types of classes can be structured so that a small pitch about your services can be made at the end of the course.  With this type of structure, you want to be sure that you offer something of substance to your students.  The community center will not appreciate an exhaustive sales pitch.

8.  Driving - Stumped by where to look for business insurance leads?  If you need some inspiration, take a drive around your city.  Look for businesses that you have never noticed before.  You will find that it opens up an entire list of new cold call possibilities.

9.  Business Directories – Using business directories is along the same lane as the local pages and driving around town.  You can generally purchase a list of business directories that will have good information on possible leads in your town.  The list may often also be used as a mailing list for your workshops and community courses.

10.  Businesses You Do Business With - This one is often overlooked.  There are certainly a number of businesses that you do business with.  It could be your printer, your mailer, your water guy, or whomever.  Because you do business, you associate with other businesses.  The advantage you have is that you already have a working relationship with these people.  They know how you conduct business, and if you are doing things right, they respect you for how you conduct yourself.  These businesses can be an excellent source of leads.

Again, I would just like to emphasize that this is only the surface of possibilities.  There are near countless approaches to finding business insurance leads.  The important thing is to hit the proverbial concrete and get to work.
